Young Mums Mas Project launches new podcast giving young mums space to tell their stories

WRDA’s Young Mums Mas Project is delighted to introduce a brand new podcast, created in collaboration with Inspire Wellbeing’s PEACE of Mind Programme, which gives young mums the chance to share their experiences of pregnancy, birth, motherhood and mental health in their own words.

Real conversations, in young mums’ own words

The podcast creates a safe and honest space for young women to talk about the realities of becoming a mum at a young age. Across the series, young mums reflect on the moments that changed their lives, the stigma they have faced, the support that made a difference and the things they wish more people understood.

There are moments of laughter, warmth and connection, as well as conversations about fear, uncertainty, mental health and the challenges that can come with pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Most importantly, the podcast centres young mums as the experts in their own lives.

Episode One: The Two Red Lines

What goes through your mind when you see those two red lines? In the first episode of the Young Mums Mas podcast, young women speak openly about finding out they were pregnant, from shock and fear to uncertainty, support and everything in between.

The conversation explores the realities of young motherhood and the stigma that is too often attached to it. It also highlights why safe, welcoming spaces matter, especially spaces where young mums can feel listened to, supported and understood without judgement.

Episode Two: Best Toast of Your Life

Episode Two looks at childbirth beyond the films, TV dramas and picture-perfect social media posts. Young mums share honest reflections on labour, birth and the reality of becoming a parent, from fear and uncertainty to humour, resilience and the unexpected moments that stay with you. And yes, the episode also makes space for the legendary post-birth hospital toast.

About the Young Mums Mas Project

The WRDA led Young Mums Mas Project supports mums aged 16 to 25 through peer support groups based in women’s centres across Northern Ireland. The groups are designed to be safe, welcoming spaces where young women can connect with others, take time for themselves and access support in a way that feels respectful and non-judgemental.

The project helps reduce isolation and gives young mums space to breathe, build friendships and feel less alone. At its heart, Young Mums Mas is about connection, safety, peer support and recognising the strength, wisdom and lived experience of young mothers.

Challenging stigma and building understanding

By sharing these conversations publicly, the podcast aims to challenge stigma around young motherhood and maternal mental health. It reminds listeners that young mums are not alone, that their experiences matter and that support can make a real difference.

The series also offers professionals, families, friends and wider communities an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on how they can better support young mums.
