This is a flexible, grassroots festival designed to respond at short notice and help promote the many creative ideas and examples of excellent work that are continually generated in the city as the result of people's goodwill and commitment to inclusion - on the ground. Belfast Friendship Club fundraising launch: Thursday 3rd June 7-9pm, Common Grounds Cafe
Thanks to several workshops led by Michael Hart (Belfast Print Workshops) this week's programme will include an exhibition of monoprints by members of the Club on show throughout June. All proceeds will go to the Friendship Club, ensuring that we can continue to offer a warm welcome to all. Please click here for the flier.
Francois La Roux from South Africa will be performing in the Black Box on the 3rd June at 8pm. He is a chellist and composer and singer and has tackled many SA concerns in his music and has a really unique style about him.
The concert is £8 full price and £4 for concession tickets.

There is a £10 registration fee plus sponsorship money.The walk departs from Custom House Square, Laganside, Belfast at 10pm.
The Midnight walk is organised by Northern Ireland Hospice to raise money and awareness for the work of the hospice which cares for over 3,250 adults, children and young people living with life-limiting and life threatening illnesses.
The walk is open to men, women and young people over 13 years old, provided they are accompanied by a parent/ guardian.The order of the evening is Fun! Fun!, FUN! As we warm up to the sounds of a radio road show with lively action and spot prizes for the best fancy dress and the person who looks most eye catching in Purple - our hospice colour!! So dress up wild or as wacky as you like...it’s all in a good cause after all!

Bring along a glass jar to the Movie House, Dublin Road on Friday 4th June at 2pm and you can watch Some Like It Hot for free!
This special event, part of Belfast City Council’s Waste Week celebrations, draws on an old tradition of swapping glass jars for cinema tickets.
Please note that there is a limit of 260 seats so admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Jars will be collected outside the cinema and hands stamped as proof of admission. One glass jar per person.
The cinema screen is on the ground floor and has disabled access. Seniors groups can pre-book by calling the Wasteline on 0800 032 8100.
Northern Ireland's largest disability exhibition is back. Disability Exhibition 2010 will take place on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th June from 10am at the Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn. The event is free of charge.
This year’s exhibition is being organised by Ability NI in conjunction with Disability Action and is sponsored by TBC (Taxi and Bus Conversions Ltd), suppliers of wheelchair accessible vehicles.
At Disability Exhibition 2010 people with disabilities, their families, carers and healthcare professionals can find out about the latest products and services for disabled people. These include transport, aids and equipment, sports activities, technology, benefits and much more.
Disability Action will be among the many exhibitors, providing information on their areas of work including benefit advice, employment and training support, transport, human rights, access to the built environment and driving lessons and assessments. Disability Action’s Centre on Human Rights for People with Disabilities will also deliver a seminar on Friday 4 June at the Exhibition on what the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities means for people living with disabilities in Northern Ireland.Entertainment will be available for children, so the event promises to be not only informative but also a fun day out for all the family.

The aim of this free training is to enable participants to prevent loss of life in a life-threatening situation prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
These half-day courses are intended to complement the various training courses provided by CHNI on substance use and homelessness issues and take place in Andras House, 60 Great Victoria Street, Belfast.
The topics to be covered are:
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) 1 and 2 person technique
Special circumstances in resuscitation e.g. pregnancy, tracheotomy/laryngectomy and hypothermia
Choking in both the conscious and unconscious adult, child and infant
The use of the recovery position
Emergency management of overdosing with opiate, depressants, stimulants or alcohol.
This Basic Life Support element of this training is delivered in line with standards set by the Resuscitation Council UK. The Overdose Management element is mapped to the DANOS standards. Participants will be certificated upon successful completion of this course.
This Training Course is free to those working within Addictions Services and Homelessness Services in the Eastern Area.

The conference will consider the major issues in later life learning including how it can be sustained for the long term, how it should be reshaped to fit an ageing demographic and what lessons can be learned from other countries and governments.
Learning can make a real difference to the quality of life and work for older people. It can help them stay longer in work, improve their health and wellbeing and support them in facing the challenges of retirement and late old age.Despite this later life learning is facing challenges on many fronts, an increasingly youth- centred education system, the promotion of skill-based qualifications and a tough economic backdrop.
The conference will consider the major issues in later-life learning including how it can be supported and sustained for the long term, how it should be reshaped to fit an ageing demographic and what lessons can be learned from other countries and governments.The conference will be addressed by leading researchers on the subject, policy makers, practioners and older people themselves.
The conference takes place at Stormont Hotel, Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast at 9:30am and is free to attend.

‘The conflict between religion and gender the Malaysian legislative experience’ - Lecture at Queens University
You are warmly invited to attend a lecture to be given by Datuk Rafiah Salim, on Friday 11th June, at 2.30pm in the Peter Froggat Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, as part of the Malaysia Lecture Series at Queen’s.
The Malaysia Lecture Series at Queen’s brings internationally renowned scholars from Malaysia to Belfast to promote business, academic and research links between Northern Ireland and Malaysia.
A lawyer by qualification, Datuk Rafiah Salim has strong connections with Queen’s University Belfast. She holds three degrees awarded by the University. In 1971, she graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree (LLB), followed three years later by a Masters of Law degree(LLM). In 2006, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University in recognition of her services to the University’s alumni relations programme.
Datuk Rafiah Salim’s address is entitled:. In it, she will concentrate on the unique feature of Malaysian laws that govern the position of women.

This course will examine global trade by focusing on the history of international trade, how trade works and who it advantages and disadvantages. It will also give participants and understanding of key international agents and institutions and outline their role in international trade. The course will also focus on what the principles of fair trade might be and what the fair trade movement is about.
The course will run from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The course is free of charge and will be held at the Ulster Peoples College.

Windsor Women's Centre's Celebrate 20 Years Anniversary!
In honour of Windsor’s big year, a celebration at the Windsor Social Club on the 18th June has been organised. Entertainment will be provided by 'The Beheader's' - a fantastic group started by one of the women who benefited so much from the confidence she gained at our Windsor Women’s Centre she's been all around the world singing and entertaining!

On Saturday 19th June, a colourful carnival through the city centre celebrates the start of the new Belfast Lord Mayor’s term in office.
Puppets, of all shapes and sizes, from around Belfast and further afield, are the theme of this year`s carnival. After the parade has made its way through the city centre, the finale is a magical Puppet Picnic in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.
As well as all the puppet pandemonium, this is an extra special carnival as The Beat Initiative have been working with the Chinese Welfare Association to bring the traditional `Raising of the Dragon` spectacular to Northern Ireland for the first time ever - watch out for the extra special dragon in this year`s carnival parade.
The Policing Board is holding a public engagement event in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry, at 7pm on Thursday 24th June 2010.
The event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to hear about the work of the Board and the PSNI and to put questions to Board Members and the new Chief Constable, Matt Baggott and his top team.
