There will be keynote lectures by:
Professor Sylvia Walby author of Globalization and Inequalities; Professor Richard Wilkinson co-author of The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better; Professor Martha Fineman (Emory University), author of The Autonomy Myth: A Theory of Dependency; Professor Andrew Sayer author of The Moral Significance of Class.

On that date, hundreds of volunteers will be in libraries across Northern Ireland to deliver fun taster sessions on the internet, e-mail, online banking, shopping and much much more. The event, now in its seventh year, is supported by the Department of Finance and Personnel. Hilary Dickson, the event’s Programme Manager at Business in the Community is urging anyone interested to register with their local library now. She said: “Hundreds of Silver Surfers have already booked their sessions at local libraries and places are becoming very limited. It isn’t too late to book a place, but I’d urge anyone interested to get in contact with their library right away to avoid disappointment. Silver Surfers’ Day always catches the imagination of the over-50’s and we’re delighted that so many local companies have become involved this year to provide volunteers.”
At the Silver Surfer sessions, individuals will find out how easy it is to get online, send an email and discover how to do things such as booking an MOT or even applying for a passport through ‘nidirect’. Ultimately, it’s about helping them to save time and save money.
