Community Direct is pleased to announce that it has been short-listed as a finalist for the Belfast Business Awards, under the category of ‘Best Social Economy Enterprise’.

The Award, which is one of six new categories to be introduced into the competition this year, recognises and champions the vital work carried out by the most successful social entrepreneurs in Belfast and marks the contributions that they have made in changing the future of their communities.

Community Direct, the Social Economy Enterprise of the Women’s Resource and Development Agency was officially launched in March 2007.  The aim of the business is to provide health awareness programmes at the heart of local communities where health inequalities are greatest.  Success in this core area has allowed the business to expand, with the facilities to offer a community consultation and engagement service. 

To date Community Direct has successfully delivered 248 health awareness programmes to approx 2,400 individuals from disadvantaged areas throughout Northern Ireland and completed consultations for a number of organisations including Deloitte and OFMDFM.  Community Direct has also secured self-employment opportunities for over 20 WRDA trained Community Facilitators. 

The winner will be announced at the Gala Awards Ceremony on Thursday 29th April at Belfast City Hall, which will be hosted by Nicky Kinnard; founder and Creative Director of Space NK apothecary.
