WRDA welcomes new Director

WRDA started the New Year by welcoming a new Director, Anne McVicker, to the helm. She has taken over from our previous Director Margaret Ward, who retired after several great years with us.

New WRDA Director Anne McVickerAnne comes from a legal background and has worked for a wide range of women's and community sector organisations. Throughout her career, her main focus has always been on fighting for rights and for equality.

Her last post before joining us was at WOMEN’STEC, where she had been Chief Executive since 1999, giving her extensive experience of engaging with the women’s sector across Northern Ireland.

Anne decided to join WRDA because she saw it as a new personal challenge, as well as an opportunity to contribute to the continued development and strengthening of the women’s sector in Northern Ireland.

Anne said, “One of the main reasons I took on this new role is because I want to be involved in ensuring the women’s sector can develop and adapt to the ever-changing environment here, while still serving the needs of disadvantaged women.”

WRDA also recently took on Robyn Scott as our new Communications and Membership Worker, replacing the excellent Shauna Crawley who moved on to pastures new with NICVA.

Robyn became a journalist after leaving University, but subsequently decided on a career-change, leaving her reporter’s pad behind to retrain in communications. Her previous job before joining WRDA was as PR Officer with the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

Both Anne and Robyn have settled in well and are looking forward to what is bound to be an eventful 2014.
